Il s’agit d’une étude de prévention qui repose sur un service de dépistage rapide du VIH et mesure l’impact du counselling sur les comportements sexuels à risque chez des hommes ayant des relations sexuelles avec d’autres hommes (HRSH).
The study compares the impacts of three types of interventional counselling on reducing sexual risk behaviours: Routine counselling — most common practice provided by health professionals; classic counselling — based on Quebec guidelines for HIV counselling and testing using the rapid test; and motivational counselling — based on theoretical frameworks and techniques for motivational interviewing.
Researchers believe that motivational counselling will prove most effective as an intervention. Results of SPOT could encourage knowledge transfer and training on motivational counselling to health professionals who practice HIV testing.
To measure the effects of counselling on sexual risk behaviours, participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire before and after the sessions, and during the study’s follow-up period.
