Dr. Lena Serghides is an associate professor in the Department of Immunology at the University of Toronto. She is also a scientist at the Toronto General Research Institute of the University Health Network and an adjunct scientist at the Women’s College Research Institute.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in honours biology with a minor in business administration at Wilfrid Laurier University and her PhD at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Serghides’ primary research interest is HIV and pregnancy, including novel therapies and diagnostics to optimize maternal and child health in the face of infection and sex steroids in pregnancy complicated by HIV. She is currently a co-investigator for CTNPT 025: ProSPAR, which is investigating the ability of progesterone supplementation to improve the standard of care for HIV-positive pregnant women. Other areas of interest include immunomodulatory therapies for cerebral malaria as well as novel therapies and diagnostics to optimize maternal and child health in the face of infection. She has contributed to several CTN research publications.
