Dr. Marissa Becker is an associate professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, the Centre for Global Public health, and the Department of Community Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. She is also the associate director of the Manitoba HIV Program.

Dr. Becker earned her medical degree at the University of Manitoba before completing specializations in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She later earned a Master of Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Her primary research interests are in public health, infectious diseases, and program science. In Manitoba, her focus is on understanding the health needs, patterns, and outcomes among people living with HIV. In her global health research, which she has conducted studies in India, Kenya, and Ukraine, Dr. Becker aims to understand HIV risk among female sex workers and vulnerable young women.

Dr. Becker is one of the principal investigators for CTNPT 004, a study evaluating the effect of genetic variations among individuals on the progression of HIV. She has contributed to two CTN publications that draw on data from this study and discuss the relationship between human genetic variations and HIV.
