CTN Investigators are able to access Network expertise and resources, including concept and protocol developmental assistance, communication support, and mentoring.
Dr. Read is a member of the graduate faculty at the Institute of Medical Sciences, and a professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. He also has a position as an honorary professor at the University of the West Indies in the Faculty of Medicine, and is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto. He is also a pediatric infectious disease specialist and the director of the Family Centered HIV/AIDS Program at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Dr. Read obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta in 1965. He then moved on to obtain his master’s degree in experimental surgery from the University of Saskatchewan, and completed his doctorate degree at McGill University with a focus on microbiology and immunology.
His research interests are in the diagnosis and management of children with HIV and reduction of mother-to-child transmission.
Beyond his role on the Postdoctoral Fellowship Adjudication Committee, Dr. Read is a co-investigator for CTN 281: EPIC 4 Study, which is looking at whether the early use of combination anti-retroviral therapy in vertically transmitted cases results in a state of HIV suppression that can be controlled without further drug use. He has also contributed to several CTN research publications including a national review of vertical HIV transmission.
