Dr. Cameron is the Medical Director of Clinical Research and a Senior Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He is also a professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and a physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Ottawa Hospital.
His research interests include infectious disease treatment and prevention, with a focus on HIV/AIDS in Canada and developing countries. Dr. Cameron has practiced general infectious disease medicine at the Ottawa hospital for over twenty five years, and has made substantial impact on HIV epidemiology and therapeutics.
Dr. Cameron was the principal investigator for CTN 167: OPTIMA. This study was a tri-national (Canada, UK, USA) study aiming to determine the optimal management of patients with HIV infection for whom first and second-line highly active antiretroviral therapy has failed. Dr. Cameron is the principal investigator for CTN 238, a study investigating whether supplementation of a specially enhanced micronutrient preparation can slow the progression of HIV compared to standard vitamins. He has also served as an investigator for other CTN studies.
